Memoirs: Neuroqueer Self-Realizations in the Algorithmic Envirusment age Series

This slice-of-life memoir series bares an intimate look at one late-in-life realized neuroqueer (autistic / non-binary) millennial’s lifetime, full of artistic, activist, and academic insights, and demonstrating traumatic trials and tribulations which bore critical media ecological tenants: we only know what we know, everything becomes normal in repetition, everything is connected.

In their first volume, Dr. bird shares their personal journey, revealing secrets kept hidden for over 30 years. They talk about their struggles with compulsory cisheterosexuality, suppressed queernesses, and the late-realization of being a lost generation autist. This memoir sheds light on the fact that autism is not a recent trend, but a significant part of many people’s lives. Dr. bird’s writing exposes the challenges they faced, including confusion, gaslighting, family dysfunction, substance abuse, and sexual violences (the last two of which, as recent research shows 1/2 & 3/4, autists are at high risk of experiencing). They also discuss the impact of societal ideas on our well-being and offer suggestions for a more liberating future.

In their second volume, Dr. bird shares their personal experiences and insights from 2020-2023, focusing on four important topics, including the impact of COVID-19 during their PhD studies. Dr. bird emphasizes the urgent need to address deep-rooted issues in the United States that harm our well-being. They remind us to take care of ourselves and strive for a better future.
